D.I.KHAN/WANA: At least 17 persons were killed and several others injured in US drone strikes in South Waziristan Agency (SWA) on Sunday.
According to sources, US drones fired 10 missiles at two compounds in different localities including Bobar Ghar and Ziarat Baba areas of SWA agency destroying them completely.
As a result of attacks, 17 persons were killed while several others sustained injuries.
Some sources claimed that a key militant commander identified as Wali Muhammad Tofan was also among those killed in the attacks. Tofan was considered as mastermind of suicide attacks after the death of Qari Hussain who was also killed in a drone attack in North Waziristan on Oct, 2010.

The locals stayed away from rescue activities due to lower flight of spy plane creating panic and fright among the dwellers.
The US after a period of calm regarding drone strikes has restarted targeting militants through unmanned planes and recently the pro-government tribal leader Maulvi Nazeer was also killed in such an attack.
It is pertinent to mention here that with the advent of 2013, US and Nato forces had increased drone attacks in the twin agencies of North and South Waziristan and the latest was the third one during a week of the year 2013.
Some of the local analysts were of the opinion that America would intensify the campaign of drone attacks during the year 2013 to clean the area of the militants before US departure from Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, ten militants were killed and several others got injured when Pakistani jet fighters bombarded at militants hideouts in Upper Orakzai Agency on Sunday. According to the reports, two hideouts were destroyed in the bombardment killing 10 extremists and injuring several others.
Local sources said that death toll might rise further as many militants were reported to have been buried under the rubble of destroyed hideouts and condition of many of the injured was also told to be serious.
Local sources had confirmed that security forces had accelerated action in Orakzai Agency against the militants who reportedly had taken asylum in the forests and hilly areas of the restive tribal area of Orakzai.
