D.I. KHAN: The four arrested culprits, Walid Akber, Ikramullah, Abas Ali and Alyas belonging to the banned Lashkar-e-Jangvi and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan were presented before the media persons while hand cuffed and faces covered at the Police Rest House, Dera Ismail Khan.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police Dera Ismail Khan, Qazi Jamil-ul-Rehman, told media persons that Pakistan army, several investigative agencies and police held a joint interrogation from the culprits. He told these arrested persons were involved in three bomb blasts and eleven other terrorist acts in Dera Ismail Khan.
It was revealed that the arrested culprits along with the help of their other accomplices had attacked the Police Line D.I. Khan, two DSPs of City Police Station Abdul Ghafar and Salaudin Kundi and important Shia leaders in Dera Ismail Khan.
The DIG also told media persons that some police men had collaborated with these persons in carrying out terrorist acts, and these police had confessed their involvement.
But the DIG did not disclose the names and ranks of the police personals. The DIG added that the arrested culprits revealed during interrogation that they were provided with three IEDs from their network to be used during Moharram processions of Shia in Dera Ismail Khan. One of the IEDs blasted at roadside garbage in Toi Fazal Colony of D. I. Khan had killed nine persons, including five children while 26 others had sustained injuries. Second IED in a pressure cooker was blasted in the Commissionery Bazaar at a 10th Moharram procession in which seven persons had killed while 138 sustained injuries.
The third IED was about to be planted in Basti Dewala of D.I. Khan to target the ‘Matmee Jaloos’ but due to the presence of police there, they failed to plant it. Later on, the same third IED was planted near Polytechnic College Dera Ismail Khan on November 28 and the same day, the culprits hurled a hand grenade on the police officer Ghazanfar house near Polytechnic College with the aim to target DPO D.I. Khan Sohail Khalid who was due to come to the site but bomb disposal squad had defused the IED.
DIG told media persons that the arrested persons had also confessed their involvement in other terrorists acts in Dera Ismail Khan. On March 14, they were involved in a suicide attack on police mobile in the Commissionery Bazaar, in which DSP Abdul Ghafoor got injured while the other DSP on the same vehicle Salaudin Kundi escaped the suicide attack. In 2009, they were involved in an attack on the vehicle of Syed Masthan Ali Zaidi in which two police constables were killed. On November 22, 2009, they had gunned down Raza Hussain near Rehmanai Hospital. On September 22, they had killed Qisar Abas on Kachary Road. In June, they had killed Gholam Akber on Gari Sadozai and on May 27, they had killed Fida Hossain in Basthi Kalchakai. In September, they were involved in killing of retired police sub inspector Monir Kati Khel and on October, 2012, they killed one of their own colleagues Tanvir Babli in suspicion of spying for police, he told.
DIG Qazi Jamil-ul-Rehman added during interrogation the police had recovered a suicide jacket and a remote used in 10th Moharram blast in the Commissionery Bazaar and. They recovered another jacket on the information of Akramullah, he said. DIG said that all the four arrested culprits belonged to different tribes of Dera Ismail Khan. DPO D.I. Khan, Sohail Khalid, SP Investigation Asif Jan Marwatt, and other officials were present on the occasion.
