DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The City District Government Dera Ismail Khan failed to arrange any event to mark 23rd March 'Pakistan Day' while some private schools tailored special programs to celebrate the historical day.
The Pakistan Day celebrations arranged by a private school was attended by general public, parents and notable of the area including chief guest Brigadier (Retd) Quyyum Sher Mehsud, Salah Muhammad, principal of the school and others.
Chief Guest of the program said that there was no lack of talent in students but educational institutions should give special attention to make their mind and educate them about sacrifices rendered by Muslims to get a separate homeland.
Pen is mightier than sword, said the chief guest, Brigadier (Retd) Quyyum Sher Mehsud, speaking on the occasion, he remarked that no nation could make progress without education and knowledge.
Quyyum Sher Mehsud spoke to the students emphasizing the need for education in a developing country like Pakistan and how education can drastically change the lives of these students.
When contacted, a senior official of the city district government on the condition not to be named told The Frontier Post that lack of coordination among government bodies, besides poor law and order situation, and bad weather as well, were some reason for spending the day silently.
It merits mentioning here that Pakistan Day has been celebrated across the country with great zeal and spirit but due to deteriorating law and order situation the day could not be celebrated in a befitting manner for the last few years in the district.
